Capturing nature’s beauty in jewelry is artist Michael Michaud’s strong point. He has done it again capturing the unique beauty of the sea fan coral in this great necklace. This necklace is great for anyone who loves the oceans, nature, fish, or unique handcrafted art jewelry. The pendant is approximately 2.25” long and approximately 1.5” at the widest point. The chain the pendant comes with has been hand patinaed to match the pendant and closes with a secure lobster claw style clasp. The chain measures approximately 17” and features a 1.5” extender that allows the necklace to expend to 18.5”. The extender adds great versatility to this piece allowing it to work with many different necklines. The fan coral pendant appears a light yellow color and consists of 24kt gold over silver cast in bronze with multicolored Swarovski crystals. This necklace was created in the USA by talented artist Michael Michaud as part of his Silver Seasons collection. The necklace comes with a glossy black gift box with our store label that is great for giving and storage for years to come. These large coral colonies are easy to recognize because of their fan shape. A flexible, horny substance forms this coral’s central skeleton with living tissue forming a layer over the entire surface. Sea fans typically grow across the current so that their polyps can spread out their tentacles to form a net for catching plankton. Sea fans appear in shades of red, yellow, or orange. They can grow up to 6’ high by 5’ high and are found in all oceans but particularly abundant in the Atlantic Ocean.

Artist Michael Michaud was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Westport, Connecticut. He currently resides in Fairfield, CT with his wife and children. Michael studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, graduating in 1980. In 1991, fortunate enough to be living in the Connecticut countryside and working near New York City's flower district, Michael's love of nature began to combine with his love of jewelry. Today's collection is a combination of Michael's exceptional knowledge of jewelry making and his love of nature. He has perfected the technique of creating models from natural elements and, after models are made, manipulating these "copies of nature" into beautiful jewelry. Using bronze, sterling silver or gold and natural stones and pearls, Michael's designs have become well known for their remarkable craftsmanship and beauty.
